Please read these terms carefully before using Velvet Quill.

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Velvet Quill, operated by New Arc Consulting LLC, a California limited liability company ("we," "us," "our"). Velvet Quill is available at velvetquill.ai (the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Velvet Quill. By accessing the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement. We reserve the right to terminate any account we reasonably believe belongs to a person under 18.

Velvet Quill generates interactive fiction that may include mature themes, including but not limited to romantic and sexually explicit content. This Service is not intended for, and should not be used by, minors.

2. AI Disclosure

Velvet Quill is an AI-powered interactive fiction platform. All characters, dialogue, narrative content, and story responses are generated by artificial intelligence. You are not interacting with a human when you engage with characters on our platform. AI-generated characters are fictional constructs and do not possess consciousness, emotions, or independent agency.

Velvet Quill may not be suitable for all audiences, including minors. Our AI systems include safeguards designed to detect and prevent the generation of content related to self-harm, suicidal ideation, or suicide. If our systems detect such themes, the AI will not engage with or encourage those topics and will instead direct you to appropriate resources. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741).

3. Account Registration

3.1 Creating an Account

You may create an account using Google OAuth or email and password. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

3.2 Guest Access

Velvet Quill may offer limited guest access to allow you to preview the Service before creating an account. Guest sessions create temporary records in our systems. If you sign up after a guest session, your guest data (including any stories and messages) will be migrated to your new account. Guest data that is not claimed through account creation may be deleted at our discretion.

3.3 One Account Per Person

Each person may maintain one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions, rate limits, or account actions is prohibited.

4. Description of the Service

Velvet Quill provides AI-generated interactive romance fiction. The Service allows you to:

  • Create protagonist profiles (reader-insert characters)
  • Create AI character profiles (love interests)
  • Configure adventure scenarios using our wizard tools
  • Engage in interactive, narrative-driven stories with AI characters

Story content, character dialogue, and narrative elements are generated by third-party AI language models. The AI may produce content that is unexpected, inaccurate, repetitive, or inconsistent. We do not guarantee the quality, coherence, or appropriateness of AI-generated output.

AI characters may refuse, redirect, or delay responses to your inputs. This is by design. Our narrative engine is built to create dramatic tension and earned progression, not instant compliance.

5. Content Acknowledgment

By using Velvet Quill, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • The Service is designed to generate adult romantic and potentially sexually explicit fictional content
  • You have voluntarily chosen to access this content and are of legal age to do so
  • You may encounter themes, scenarios, or language that you find surprising or objectionable, even within the boundaries you configure
  • The hard limits and spice level settings you select during story configuration represent your preferences, which the AI will respect to the best of its ability, but AI output is inherently unpredictable
  • You are solely responsible for your emotional and psychological well-being while using the Service

6. User Conduct

6.1 Acceptable Use

You may use Velvet Quill to create and engage with fictional interactive stories for personal entertainment. You retain ownership of the text you write (your inputs/messages).

6.2 You Agree Not To:

  • Use the Service if you are under 18 years of age
  • Attempt to generate content involving minors in sexual or romantic situations, regardless of whether those minors are fictional
  • Use the Service to harass, stalk, threaten, or harm any real person
  • Attempt to create stories depicting real, identifiable people in sexual scenarios without their consent
  • Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate our system prompts, narrative engine, or proprietary configurations
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the Service
  • Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or security measures
  • Redistribute, publicly display, or commercially exploit AI-generated content from the Service without our written consent
  • Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law

7. Prohibited Content

Velvet Quill permits adult fictional content within defined limits. The following content is absolutely prohibited and may result in immediate account termination:

  • Sexual content involving minors. Any sexual or romantic content involving characters described as, implied to be, or appearing to be under 18 years old. This includes "aging up" canonically minor characters, and scenarios involving characters in school settings intended to sexualize minors.
  • Non-consensual content presented approvingly. While fictional narratives may explore complex power dynamics and dark themes, content that exists solely to glorify or instruct real-world sexual violence is prohibited.
  • Real persons. Sexual or defamatory content targeting real, identifiable individuals.
  • Illegal activity instructions. Content designed to facilitate real-world illegal activity, including but not limited to creation of weapons, drugs, or exploitation material.

We reserve the right to review content and take action, including account termination, for violations of these rules. Our AI systems include behavioral constraints designed to prevent generation of prohibited content, but no system is perfect. Users who deliberately attempt to circumvent these constraints may have their accounts terminated.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Our Property

The Velvet Quill platform, including but not limited to its narrative engine, system prompts, character behavioral systems, progression mechanics, user interface, branding, and all underlying technology, is the proprietary property of New Arc Consulting LLC. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on any part of our platform or its underlying systems.

8.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of the text you input into the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process your inputs for the purpose of generating AI responses and maintaining your account data. We do not use your stories or messages to train AI models.

8.3 AI-Generated Content

AI-generated story content (character dialogue, narrative prose, scene descriptions) is produced by third-party AI models. Ownership of AI-generated content is a developing area of law. We make no representations regarding your ownership rights over AI-generated output. You may use AI-generated content from the Service for personal purposes. Commercial use requires our written consent.

9. Third-Party Services

Velvet Quill relies on third-party services to operate, including:

  • AI Model Providers: We route your story interactions through third-party AI providers to generate narrative content. Your messages are sent to these providers for processing. We select providers that do not train on user data, but we cannot guarantee the practices of third parties.
  • Authentication: We use third-party authentication services (including Google OAuth) for account management.
  • Hosting and Storage: Your data is stored using third-party cloud infrastructure.

We are not responsible for the practices, terms, or availability of third-party services.

10. Privacy

Our handling of your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Privacy Policy.

11. Service Availability and Disclaimers

11.1 Alpha/Early Access

Velvet Quill is currently in early access. The Service may contain bugs, incomplete features, and unexpected behavior. Features may be added, changed, or removed without notice.

11.2 No Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

11.3 AI Output Disclaimer

We do not control, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated content. AI models may produce content that is factually incorrect, internally inconsistent, offensive, or otherwise undesirable. AI characters do not provide real medical, legal, financial, therapeutic, or professional advice. Do not rely on AI-generated content for real-world decisions.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEW ARC CONSULTING LLC, ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100).

13. Account Termination

13.1 By You

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Account deletion will remove your profile, characters, protagonists, stories, and messages from our database. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Some data may persist in backups for a limited period before being purged.

13.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Reasons for termination may include, but are not limited to: violation of these Terms, generation of prohibited content, abusive behavior, or actions that threaten the security or integrity of the Service.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless New Arc Consulting LLC, its owners, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any applicable law.

15. Dispute Resolution

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15.2 Informal Resolution

Before initiating formal proceedings, you agree to contact us at support@velvetquill.ai and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

15.3 Jurisdiction

Any disputes not resolved informally shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California. You consent to personal jurisdiction in these courts.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on the Service with a new "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and New Arc Consulting LLC regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements or understandings.

19. Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.
